Safety Information

It is important riders follow the general traffic rules that apply to all motorists and cyclists who wish to use our QLD roads. Obey the law at all times.

Police will be on the road and will fine those who:

  • Disobey traffic lights at intersections and do not stop at pedestrian crossings;
  • Fail to keep to the left of the carriageway;
  • Ride dangerously;
  • Ride negligently; and
  • Do not wear a helmet.
  • Marshals will disqualify riders who are seen breaking the law. Please follow these rules to ensure an enjoyable day for all.

    RIDE SAFELY

    For the safety of you, other cyclists, volunteers, local residents and the general community please follow the safety tips below:

  • Check that your bike is roadworthy before you attempt the course.
  • Make sure your helmet is properly secured.
  • Drink plenty of water before, during and after the event.
  • Have a hearty breakfast.
  • Obey the road rules.
  • Listen to and obey directions from Police and course marshals.
  • Use hand signals where appropriate.
  • Look behind you when passing to make sure it is safe to pass other riders.
  • Follow the route markers on the course and be courteous to riders and motorists.
  • Riders should only ride side-by-side where there is enough room left for other cyclists to pass and no more than two abreast.

    If you are injured

    Professional First Aid Officers will be at the starting area of the event and are there to assist you should you require. Whilst on the ride, if you require emergency assistance then please call 000 or have another rider call 000 for you.

    Safety

    All rides are conducted on fully sealed roads and the route will be signed to help riders stay on course.

    Marshals will be available at major traffic points to assist riders. Marshals will be withdrawn at 11.00am.

    75km and 45km riders must be over 15 years. Riders in the 15km ride must be 12 years or older and accompanied by an adult. 75km event riders must be able to average 25kph and riders in the 45km event must be able to average 20kph.

    Support vehicles will accompany each ride to provide roadside assistance if needed. They will carry extra water.

    A recovery vehicle will be available for emergency recoveries.

    Refreshment stops will be available during the ride.
